The nervous system is so important that the first cells to differentiate at about 7 hours after conception become the brain and spinal cord. Children continue to develop billions of neurons as they grow. The nervous system is the master controller of our body and if its communication channels become irritated or fuzzy we experience all sorts of communication errors. For infants and children this ineffective communication may present as head tilts, irritability, colic, and low energy. Through very safe and effective ways your Jackson chiropractors are able to treat the spine correcting nerve irritation. This allows their young bodies to heal and continue developing and communicating free of interference.

Chiropractic Kids

With fewer years of stress and wear, children are able to respond much quicker to chiropractic than adults.

Below are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) that will better help parents understand why taking their children to Payne Chiropractic is an important part of their overall health care.

1. How do children get nerve irritation?

From the moment of birth through the rough and tumble years of childhood, children are exposed to minor spinal trauma and nerve irritation called subluxations. They result from physical, chemical, and emotional stressors like:

  • pressures during childbirth
  • knocks and falls
  • twisting and jarring
  • poor posture
  • sleeping positions
  • anxiety
  • poor food choices
  • exposure to toxins

2. As a parent, what should I look for that may indicate my child needs an adjustment?

Subluxations may not necessarily cause a child discomfort, but vague symptoms may suggest that they exist like:

  • tugging one ear
  • head tilt to one side
  • decreased motion in one arm or leg compared to the other
  • persistent ear aches
  • uneven shoulders or hips
  • irritability

3. What is an adjustment like for children?

After finding the areas of spinal subluxation and nerve irritation, chiropractors apply a gentle force to correct the interference. Adjustments consist of rubbing or gentle pressure (no more than you’d use to test a ripe tomato) on the skin in the area of subluxation. Adjusting techniques are modified for each child's size and unique spinal problem. Children’s spines rarely have the long-standing muscle tightness seen in adults. This makes a child's chiropractic adjustments gentle, comfortable and effective.

4. At what age should I take my child to the chiropractor?

Children can be checked by a chiropractor from very soon after birth to any age. Chiropractic checkups are helpful to monitor spinal development as infants sit upright, support their head, learn to crawl and take their first brave steps.
